1997 Subaru Legacy Outback wagon. 228,000 miles. 4 speed automatic, 2.5 engine.
The headgaskets are bad. However, the car is still drive-able. But there is no heat, since to bypass the overheating problem, the thermostat has been removed. There is heat while idling, but once you start driving, the air blowing out is lukewarm.
The back windshield wiper motor is bad. I have checked that it is the motor itself and not a fuse or a broken wire.
The front rotors need to be replaced. There is shuddering during hard braking, but I'm done with this car.
Other than that, it's in fair shape for a 16 year old car. The paint is okay, the interior is decent. Gas mileage for me averaged around 22 mpg. No check engine or other trouble lights. Comes with aftermarket rims, tires are decent. The back seats didn't come with headrests when I bought it. The windows are tinted and that's still in fair shape. The decal on the back can be removed if you wish. I have a spare driver's side headlight that will come with it.
I haven't decided how much I'm going to list it for yet.

It's clear and honest, and the spelling and punctuation are very good. This ad will look completely out of place on Craigslist. Please add MORE CAPITAL LETTERS in random places.
You're being a bit too honest and forthcoming, I think. With this description, you're limiting your potential buyer base to mechanics, and to desperate people who must absolutely have something to get to work and just don't care as long as it runs.
Try switching it around a bit, start with the good (decent condition, good mileage, etc). Leave out the missing headrests and the decal business, I'm guessing no-one cares. And provide a few less details about the mechanical problems while still being honest about them.

I would recommend changing "rims" to "wheels".

my suggestion would be to add bullet points, its tl;dr
Also, try and answer any questions you would ask. Additionally, I include the VIN in all my ads so people can do a carfax.
I'd remove the "but I'm done with this car".
you need to paint a more positive picture, whilst retaining the full disclosure of its issues.

The headgaskets are ripe for replacement. Thermostat was removed because this car is HOT! Idling is reserved only for winter time. Spring and Fall are best for driving.
The rear windshield wiper motor worked so well I never turned it off and it finally gave up on me.
There is shuddering under hard braking to let you know the brakes do work. Should you feel the need to correct this I would start by replacing the front rotors.
Other than these non factory options, it is in fair shape for being a 16 year old car. The paint is okay, the interior contains no unwelcomed stains or smells. The gas mileage averages around 22 mpg.
Bonus: Aftermarket wheels with decent tires. Tinted windows. Spare driver's side headlight.

16 year should be 16-year, 4 speed should be 4-speed.
The front rotors need to be replaced. There is shuddering during hard braking, but I'm done with this car.
Car shudders during hard braking, the front rotors need replacing.
Spare driver's side headlight comes with car.

Very nice. I got the part about the brakes and just started laughing.

I did mention 'unwelcomed' stains or smells because I'm not sure what you would accept as welcomed.

How many times have the headgaskets been done on this engine? I redid the ones on my '96 Legacy wagon with the 2.5 DOHC and had the heads planed. I was advised that they couldn't be planed again, which means they had been done at least two other times.
Some masochist like myself will see your listing and snatch this car up, because once you've done a set of headgaskets on an EJ engine, it becomes almost as easy as changing the oil, and something you'll do nearly as often. :(

I have no clue. Given that it has 228,000 miles, I'd assume at least once, but who knows.
